OVERVIEW
Polyurethane, often abbreviated as PU, refers to a class of polymers. Unlike many other polymers, polyurethane is produced from a large variety of starting materials. Due to this variety of starting materials, polyurethane can be used for many different applications such as foams, coating and varnish, packaging, adhesives, electrical potting compounds and fibres such as spandex and laminate. Polyurethane was first made in 1937 by Otto Bayer and his coworkers in Germany and became commercially available in 1952.
Polyurethane can also be produced using, in part, bio-derived materials such as the oils from soybeans, cotton seed, neem seed, and castor.
Polyurethane is used for stickers and labels due to its durability and other properties:
Our PU labels are available as iron-on name labels or faux leather labels.
- The iron-on name labels are applied using an iron. They are available in 2 sizes and can be designed using our online design tool. They are delivered on sheets of glassine release paper. The PU iron-on name labels are also available as part of the Kids’ School Label Pack.
- Faux Leather Labels (PU Leather) are sew-on labels and can be designed online to your specific criteria. Many finishes, sizes, shapes, colours and design embellishments are available to you. Each label design is laser engraved and cut. The colour of the engraved text is dependent on the base colour of the material being used which ranges from light brown to black. Wunderlabel offers 4 categories of PU leather labels:
Similar to glove leather, it is soft and has the look and feel of real leather. These labels have a slight leather grain and are 0.9 mm thick which is optimal for sewing. Premium faux leather is vegan.
These labels have a slight leather grain. Thickness varies depending on the chosen colour (see product description for more info). Faux leather labels are vegan.
These PU leather labels are the same as our faux leather labels except that they have a smooth surface without any grain.

Premium faux leather labels are OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified. The OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 is an independent testing and certification system for textile raw materials.
